Fishing:
The Missouri River has settled down quite a
bit the last month and seems to have found a steady state.
It has stayed at the same level for almost a
month now and fishing has varied from real well to not so
good. The water at times feel like bath water
and that’s not always a good thing. With
the warmer water temperatures a guy really has to either fish
at night or fish the deep holes where the cooler water is
to have any real success, but in the last couple of days I
have heard of some whoppers being pulled out of the river.
The last week of cooler weather may have cooled the
water enough to fool the fish into feeding up for the winter.
We all are aware of the record lows in the surrounding areas.
This is not a normal August and maybe the fish know that too.
You’ll have to give it a try. I know I ‘m
not giving up yet.
Also with the cooler weather last week, it makes
me look back at the fishing of this last summer. And
I can honestly say it has been a BLUE summer. Meaning
Blue catfish. I don’t think I have ever caught
more or seen more blue cat caught than this last summer.
I know that I have caught more blue cat than flatheads
this year and several other fishermen have had the same observation.
The bait of choice the last month has been gold fish &
chubs.

Hunting seasons are coming back around fast
and will be here soon enough. So get out and get a little
practice in where you can. And don’t give up on the
river yet – fish has slowed but there are still plenty
of good fish left this year. Remember I’m not an expert
but I have my share of luck. I wonder if the experts are having
any luck today? So until next time “Happy
Hunting & Fishing.”
